The Medical University is a building built in 1894, an architectural monument (security number 259-if), located in the historical center at Halytska 2. Previously, the Austrian railway directorate was located here, and later the Polish magistrate. Now it is the central building of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, one of the largest universities in the city.
“Currently, on the site of the ancient gate there are modern metal doors that do not fit the 126-year-old architectural monument at all. Accordingly, the goal is to restore the lost entrance gate to the courtyard (entrance from Lesya Ukrainka) in accordance with the authentic appearance preserved in old photos.” - says Mariia Kozakevych, founder of the #FrankivskThatMustBeProtected initiative.
In this way, historical justice was also restored and the authentic appearance of the building was returned along with the doors. Also, in addition to the physical restoration of the doors, the project has become a positive example of careful attitude to the history and architecture of the city, which will inspire everyone to also respect the cultural heritage.
In 2020-21, the University celebrates its 75th anniversary. The installation of the door was dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Ivano-Frankivsk Medical University, as well as a sign of gratitude to all doctors for their work, especially during the pandemic.
The photo shows a chronology of the life of old doors in different eras, along with the result after restoration.
The Urban Space 100 funds covered the costs of carpentry.
