Cellular medicine and biotechnology make it possible to effectively and safely treat organ damage and diseases caused by military trauma. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the unique ability to transform into any type of cells. After being administered into the body, tissues and functions of the affected organ are gradually restored, the manifestations of the disease are significantly reduced, and the patient’s well-being improves. The use of MSCs in medicine allows restoring the normal functioning of the entire organism, preventing the complications of diseases and improve the patients’ quality of life.
The goal of the project is to improve the health recovery and quality of life, help in the rehabilitation of victims who were injured during military operations.
The selection of patients was conducted when they had:
- Post-burn and post-traumatic scars
- Brain injuries
In total, doctors worked with 7 military personnel. Two patients received intravenous MSCs (mesenchymal stem cells), and to treat the rest, regenerative meshes were used, a tool that has successfully passed clinical testing as a dressing-carrier of epidermal growth factor in combination with antibiotics, which makes it possible to treat chronic wounds and defects with slow regeneration for patients with weakened immune systems.
The project was implemented by medical students (Esculab-IF) in partnership with the Frankomed clinic and GENOM LLC (Western Ukrainian Biotechnology Company).
